DogVacay

DogVacay (a subsidiary of Rover) is an online community that matches pet owners with people who love to take care of animals. Pet owners can search for sitters near them, view profiles and photos, read reviews, and book doggy daycare, walks, check-ins, or in-home overnight stays.

I worked on crafting a memorable, joyful, and warm brand identity and design system for DogVacay’s marketing and digital product experiences. The brand overhaul aimed to communicate the mission and to attract new sitters and pet owners who aligned with DogVacay’s values.

Illustration became a unique and recognizable part of the design vocabulary and added personality and delight to the DogVacay experience. The illustration style also helped guide the direction for an animated video that explained how DogVacay worked.

We had seasonal custom photo shoots to show pet sitters and dogs in inviting and safe situations. I worked on creating and scheduling shot lists, casting (for pups, too!), selecting locations, styling, and directing the photographer and crew for these shoots.

After setting guidelines for our identity, a UI style guide was created in parallel. Now that we had our own assets to work with, the updated aesthetic and tone were rolled out to key pages on the DogVacay website, mobile web, and parts of the native apps.

Within the DogVacay native mobile apps, VacayCam made it easy to capture and add branded digital stickers and text to photos and videos. This was a concept for a redesign of the camera, video, and photo decorating UI.

Landing pages were created to increase brand awareness, drive engagement, and provide fun pet-related material to animal lovers.

A variety of unique editorial content series, campaigns, and educational pieces were created to increase and engage followers of the brand.

We also sent out print materials including direct mailers, postcards, and brochures to promote the service.

I also designed physical products that were sold in the DogVacay store and given to employees, such as hoodies, shirts, hats, bags, and pet-related items.

DogVacay was acquired by Rover in 2017 and the brand and product were merged with Rover’s.
