Hulu
When I first joined the company, streaming TV shows and movies online was just taking off. I was fortunate to be a part of several major initiatives, including a Hulu.com redesign, Hulu’s Microsoft Windows app, experimental features for Hulu Labs, and key art creation.
PRODUCT
Hulu Plus on Microsoft Windows tablets
Windows 8 introduced major changes to its UI to improve their touch screen experience, displaying apps and dynamic content on a grid of tiles. Hulu was asked to develop an app to be preloaded on Microsoft Surface tablets for this major Windows release. As the design lead, I learned Microsoft's new design and gesture language and created a seamless end-to-end experience for the Hulu product from initial sketches to launch.

The app opens on a rotating carousel featuring a curated selection of shows and movies of the day.
Fullscreen key art is used to engage and create a cinematic feel.
As you browse the app, the focus on visual imagery is consistently carried through.
Content is organized by popular categories and curated by an in-house editorial team.
A menu appears to provide actions and details on the selected thumbnail.
Secondary navigation links to TV shows, movies, and content in your queue.
The show page suggests the first or next episode to watch.
Split view allows you to multitask while having the Hulu app open.
Search results populate thumbnails of relevant content for each query.
The Hulu app live tile on the Windows home screen displays key art or a still from the show or movie last watched.
The video player and controls.
Scrubbing along the timeline provides a thumbnail preview to make it easier to find the exact moment you're looking for.
The end card features a countdown and a still image from the next episode.
FEATURE
Enhanced Viewing
Enhanced Viewing was an experimental feature to make the Hulu viewing experience more social and rich with bonus material. The goal was to make it easy for the viewer to comment on favorite moments, see what others said, and share unique content and bite-sized clips from the show in the form of a GIF, quote, tweet, or image.

FEATURE
Face Match
Face Match originally started as a project from Hulu Labs, the research and development arm of Hulu. The feature identifies actors in a show and populates the actor's bio from a Wikipedia page.

In addition to the product design work, I also created key art mastheads and editorial graphics to promote Hulu content.
